How does your dentist do it?

When you are wearing braces, your overall oral hygiene is as important as ever, and this includes your routine dental cleaning appointments. Dentists all differ in how they manage these so check in with yours to see what your hygienist would prefer. Some work around your wires and others prefer them to be removed by us, prior to cleaning.

We are more than happy to accommodate this but scheduling the removal and replacement of your wires around your dentist’s availability is sometimes complex. Be sure to get all the appointments in place at the same time and well in advance. It is important after your cleaning to get your wires put back on by our Team as soon as possible. Delaying this could extend your orthodontic treatment time.

Win an electric toothbrush!

When your appointments are all scheduled, print off a copy of the Roos Orthodontics certificate of routine dental cleaning to take along to your cleaning. Once it has been signed by your hygienist, return it to our offices for entry into our twice annual draw. You could win an electric toothbrush for you and a surprise gift for your hygienist!

At home care.

Good oral care isn’t just about making your teeth look pretty – it is also the key to avoiding common dental problems like gingivitis, tartar, and demineralization. You will notice that it is much harder to keep your teeth clean with braces as brackets and wires trap food. Get into the habit of carrying a travel toothbrush, toothpaste and floss with you so that you can clean up your smile after every meal. At the very least, rinse your mouth well after eating, if you are unable to brush and floss. You will also notice that your toothbrush will wear out faster because of your appliances, so be sure to replace it whenever the bristles start to fray.

Speak to your Treatment Manager at your next appointment if you have any concerns about your general oral health – and keep smiling!
